Saturday August 20, will mark the 161st Galgate Horticultural Societies ‘Gaslight Show Event.’

Held at Ellel Village Hall, from 2pm - 5pm, the event will display all the entries from children and adults of flowers, fruit, vegetables, preserves, baking, art, handicrafts and photographs.

The annual event will also have a demonstration from Lune Valley Community Beekeepers, a colouring competition and a display about Galgate in the World Wars.

The show is said to have ‘something for everyone’ as there will also be a stand showing photographs of Old and New Galgate, a stall of garden curiosities for sale, an auction of exhibited produce followed by a raffle.

The Show dates back to over 160 years ago, originally set up to help install more gas lighting in the streets of Galgate, and apart from the war years and the last two pandemic years, has run each year.

Admission is free and refreshments will be available throughout the day serving tea, coffee and homemade cakes.
