Wakefield targets regular games at Morecambe
Having left home-town club Doncaster for Accrington 12 months ago the right back arrives at the Globe Arena having found his path blocked at Stanley.
The 22-year-old is hoping it’s a different story this time around and believes he can help Morecambe compete at the sharp end of the table after putting pen to paper on a one-year deal to become the club’s third summer signing.

“If I play well hopefully I’ll keep my place.
“That’s obviously the ambition for me.
“As for the club, hopefully we can win as many games as possible and can try and look up.
“The club has traditionally been in and around it around Christmas time and hopefully we can keep that going for the whole season.
“You never know, it’s been done that sort of thing, so why not?”

Hide AdWakefield was with Doncaster from the age of 12 playing in both the Championship and League 1 after progressing from the youth team.
He said: “One of my first games for Doncaster was in the Championship and it was a big step up from what I was used to.
“I was 19 at the time but it’s a challenge so you enjoy it and look forward to it.
“Eventually, I just felt the time was right to leave.
“I wanted to search for regular football.
“I wasn’t really playing regular games and was in and out of the team, regardless of how I played.”

Hide AdStanley was his next destination, but the success of John Coleman’s side meant after a bright start to his time at the Crown Ground he made just nine starts last season.
He aid: “I had a good run and played against Morecambe at the start of the season.
“I picked up an injury and literally missed a week and then I couldn’t get back in.
“Results kept going Accrington’s way so the manager didn’t really have a choice, he couldn’t really change anything while they were winning games.

“I enjoyed my time there though. It was nice to get out of my comfort zone at Doncaster and try something else and meet new people.
“It was a different league with different players and it was good to gain experience that way as well.”
Wakefield, who has moved to the area, will link up with team mate from last season Dean Winnard, another new arrival at the Globe Arena, having been impressed by the work being done by boss Bentley and his assistant Ken McKenna.

“It seemed like they were only going one way and that was up.
“It seems like a good place to come and develop and hopefully that’s what happens.”
