Police issue update after two men arrested by armed officers in connection with Bargain Booze robbery in Darwen

Police issued an update after two men were arrested in connection with an armed robbery at Bargain Booze in Darwen.

Households in Cranfield View were shocked to see officers with firearms descend on their quiet cul-de-sac at around 10am on Monday (September 19).

The dog unit was also called to the scene and the street swiftly filled up with police cars and vans as residents were told to stay indoors.

Two men aged 32 and 25 were subsequently marched out of an address in handcuffs after being arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Police said they were arrested in connection with an armed robbery that took place at the Bargain Booze in Bolton Road on Friday (September 16).

On Wednesday (September 21), officers confirmed the 32-year-old was later released under investigation for the robbery but returned to prison under licence.

The 25-year-old was released without charge.

Det Insp Kathryn Cussans, of Blackburn Police, added: “This is an ongoing investigation and we are asking for anyone who witnessed the robbery or were in the area around the time to contact us.

“If you have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area on Friday night, please contact us.”

The robbery occurred after a man carrying a weapon entered the store at approximately 9.05pm.

The suspect proceeded to threaten two members of staff before demanding money from the till.

After stealing cash, the offender ran off in the direction of Blackpool Street.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the area at the time should call 101, quoting 1285 of September 16.
