Man fined over attack at Preston's Warehouse nightclub following row

The attack happened in Preston’s Warehouse nightclub after a row broke out on December 20 last year, Preston Crown Court was told. George Coxon , 21, of Cuerden Rise, Lostock Hall, Preston, left his victim with a cut to his head caused by the weight of the bottle breaking the skin. The man later had to have the wound glued at the Royal Preston Hospital. Coxon, who was recently awarded a first class honours degree and works in a local hotel, admitted causing grievous bodily harm to Harry Delaney. Preston Crown Court heard the men had “known each other for some time” and had always been on good terms. Prosecuting, Karl Berry said: “The complainant was dancing on the bottom dancefloor of the club when he felt himself being barged with force to his back. “He turned around and came face to face with a man he knows as ‘Dean’. “He felt he was going to be assaulted and pushed him on the shoulders, causing him to slip. “At this point the defendant struck him to the forehead. He sustained a laceration to his forehead.” The court heard afterwards apologetic messages were exchanged between the complainant and defendant, but Coxon was arrested and interviewed and admitted he was responsible. He said his adrenaline was running high and that it was not his intention to use the bottle to strike him, he had simply gone to punch him. He only realised what had gone on when he saw the complainant bleeding. Recorder Simon Medland QC said: “ You obviously have a bright future ahead of you. “You are intelligent, hard working and of impeccable previous good character. “On December 20, 2017, you did a very silly thing - that was to hit somebody while you had a bottle in your hand. “There’s no suggestion you picked it up to use as a weapon. You apologised as soon as you could, and you admitted the matter in interview.” He must do 150 hours unpaid work and pay Â£500 compensation by September.
