Accrington mill fire: These were the scenes as emergency services tackled a large blaze at a derelict building

Six fire engines were sent to extinguish a blaze at a derelict building in Accrington.

A blaze broke out at a derelict mill in Blackburn Road, Church, at around 4.50pm on Saturday, August 20.

Images released by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service revealed the scale of the blaze and the subsequent damage:

Six fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, the water bowser and air unit attended the incident at around 4.50pm.

The fire involved the first floor of a derelict building that was well alight when crews arrived.

Firefighters used one jet and four ground monitors to extinguish the flames.

Blackburn Road, Bridge Street and Market Street were closed while firefighters made the scene safe.
