Fairtrade focus for caring pupils
More than 70 youngsters and their teachers from 20 schools across the county converged on Preston for the second Primary School Fairtrade Conference.
The event was organised by the Fairtrade Lancashire group and included a welcome by Lancashire County Council leader, Coun Jennifer Mein.

Hide AdAn introduction by Mary Cammack from Fairtrade Lancashire set the scene for the Conference with her explaining how important it is for producers in the developing world to receive a fair price for their products.
The young delegates heard from Lancaster MP by Cat Smith about her journey “From Fairtrade to Politics”.
During the day the pupils took part in a variety of workshop sessions hosted by different groups and at the end of the event, they draw up action plans for their own schools to adopt.
Margaret Rand, from Fairtrade Lancashire and one of the organisers, said: “We hope that the young enthusiastic ambassadors who attended the conference will return to their schools and inspire others to take action to make trade fairer.
“With Fairtrade we all have the power to challenge exploitation and change the world every day by the simple choices we make while shopping.”
